Huawei will start installing its HarmonyOS-A smart cockpit operating system in automobiles this year, Wang Jun, president of Huawei's Smart Car Solution Business Unit (BU), said on June 18 at the 2021 China Auto Forum.

Besides, based on the HarmonyOS system, Huawei has formed in-depth cooperation with more than 80 hardware and software companies, according to Wang Jun.
He said Huawei will endeavor to deal with such problems as the solidification of cockpit system hardware, insufficient applications, and slow upgrades, joint hands with partners to define hardware interfaces in a bid to achieve plug-and-play hardware, make hardware replaceable and upgradeable, and achieve interconnection among diversified hardware. Moreover, the company will develop a cockpit system featuring full-scenario coverage and multi-device collaboration to offer consumers personalized, intelligent, and diversified service experience.
In the future, Huawei will adhere to the “platform + ecology” strategy and strengthen the investment in building its smart ecosystem. According to Wang Jun, Huawei will launch its innovation center in Suzhou in the second half of this year. The hub plans to provide more than 50 million yuan ($7.733 million) worth of equipment per year, and enlist over 300 experts and develop 300 partners within three years to mainly work on HarmonyOS cockpit system and MDC (Mobile Data Centers).

Wang Jun also disclosed that Huawei's terminal equipment will be fully upgraded to the HarmonyOS this year. Meanwhile, third-party equipment for partners will also be fully adapted to the operating system, including smart home appliance, health equipment, and other terminals.
