Working principle of the gearbox retarder

- The retarder slows the vehicle by converting kinetic energy into heat via oil flow between a rotor and stator, activated by a handle or brake system. Heat is dissipated through the engine cooling system. For ZF 12-speed gearbox service, use tool XH-10102: adjust its legs via screw, attach to the retarder, then hoist using a gantry hanger.
Working principle of the retarder:
1. The retarder is activated by the retarder operating handle or the vehicle brake management system.
2. The retarder is filled with oil when working
3. The retarder rotor is accelerated and driven by a pair of gears through the gearbox output shaft. The rotor blades accelerate the oil inside the retarder and flow into the stator to obtain deceleration.
The reaction force acting on the rotor acts on the vehicle drive system through the retarder drive gear, thereby forming vehicle braking.
4. During the retarder braking process, the vehicle braking energy is converted into thermal energy of the oil. The heat generated during the retarder braking process is dissipated through the engine cooling system.

Instructions for use of the retarder hoisting device [XH-10102] in the special tool for repairing ZF 12-speed gearbox:
①First, open the two legs to a certain angle by screwing the rotating screw;
②Then hook the two legs of the retarder hoisting device to the retarder, screw the screw, and adjust the legs to the right position;
③Hook the hook of the special tool with the gantry hanger to hoist the retarder.
